Our favorite celebrity look-alikes battled it out in the ultimate drum off during the Thursday night airing of the “Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.”
If you considered yourself anything remotely close to a Red Hot Chili Peppers fan, then you have also noticed the undeniable resemblance between drummer, Chad Smith, and our favorite funnyman, Will Ferrell.
In February, Ferrell finally brought to surface the conspiracy RHCP fanatics and Will Ferrell followers have been reflecting on for years. He admitted, “A lot of people think that it’s me playing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that would be an insult to Chad Smith. The truth of the matter is there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith.”
In desperate need of a final resolution, the endowed rock and roll drummer replied, “Stop impersonating me. In fact, I need you… drum battle.”
Although these talented celebrities have both been faced with frenzied fans squealing the incorrect doppelganger’s name, Will Ferrell sarcastically shed light on his feelings about his assumed imposter. In his traditional comedic fashion, Ferrell attempted to rattle Smith’s cage in his interview with “Rolling Stone” saying, “Chad apparently has a lot of anger and issues, I don’t quite come from the same place. I don’t get nearly as many references to being Chad Smith as he does Will Ferrell. I’m not looking at this as much as a competition so much as a public service to the world.”
Matching head-to-toe in identical Kiss t-shirts, leather jackets, blue jeans, and reversed flat bill hats, the clones embraced a roundtable with Jimmy Fallon for a long awaited interview about their irrefutable similitude and the obstacles they have faced with the confusion. Continuing to imitate one another while live on the air, they hysterically explained their comical feud and how it will all become settled after the conclusion of the ultimate “drum-off to see who the real Chad Smith is,” Smith said referring to Ferrell.

In a classic rib-tickling manner, the two engaged in a serious beat battle. Ferrell surprisingly shocked the nation with some decently unexpected percussion skills, but Smith undoubtedly stole the moment. The end result, however, wasn’t exactly what the world anticipated as Will Ferrell clinched the “Drum Battle Trophy” after whipping out a cow bell to perform his timeless skit to Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper.” This perpetually favored sketch was initially presented on Saturday Night Live back in April of 2000, and has gone unforgotten since then.
With the steady beat of Ferrell on cow bell and Smith on drums, front man Anthony Kiedis appeared on stage to fill in the vocal portion of the ageless song as remaining RHCP members Flea and Josh Klinghoffer joined on stage. In typical Flea fashion, the bassist flaunted his contagious, enthusiastic energy as Will Ferrell held up his victorious trophy.
After many years of the sidesplitting feud between two of our favorite celebrity look-alikes, the vendetta has been declared officially over as Will Ferrell publicly avowed his entitlement as the RHCP drumming sensation and Chad Smith still a comedic imposter.
