As Gainesville gears up for this weekend’s flood of orange and blue, The JAM prepares to host two back-to-back shows on Thursday and Friday.
Organic Vision Presents will be giving away pairs of tickets to the two social media stars whose “share” of the original Facebook announcement gathers the most fan engagement.
Denver’s live jamtronica trio The Malah will be gracing the indoor stage at The JAM this Thursday, starting their headlining set at 11:45 p.m. This eclectic, electric group will be mixing and melding genres such as funk, hip-hop, jazz, world beat, trance, and breakbeat. The performance from these organic out-of-towners will be enhanced by The JAM’s upgraded light projection system.
In addition to these versatile visitors, there will be an opening performance from Gainesville’s own Bells & Robes at 10:15 p.m. Beloved by their dedicated fan base, Bells & Robes never fails to impress new listeners. After the success of their recent album release, “One Should See Sound,” their set list should be packed with fresh, funky material. Bells & Robes is sure to keep fans stayin’ alive all night.

On Friday, event-goers can look forward to grooving with headlining reggae-rock artists The Heavy Pets. Their soulful sound blends together with rhythm & blues, jazz, funk, and even disco to create an effervescent live experience. Their lighter tone can be compared to what it would sound like if The Strokes spent the day on a breezy beach. Recognized for radiating a feel-good vibe, the band will be continuing their countdown to 1,000 with their stop in Gainesville as number 993. The performance will be on The JAM’s legendary outdoor stage, which is surrounded by historic brick walls and graffiti art.
Friday’s show will also feature an opening act from indie soloist Estelle Miller, a talented singer-songwriter set to start the night off at 9:30 p.m. with her ukulele in tow. According to Grooveshark representative Jason Rubel, “She will bring chill vibes to the backyard space to complement the warmth of the blazing fire pit.”
The night will come to an end with a performance from experimental trio Hail Cassius Neptune at midnight. Known for their informal, unmatched stage presence and nonrestrictive style, the band breaks all boundaries with a sound that can only be described as heavy-tribal-latin-jazz-rock. Lead singer Kylie Jo Stern’s vocals create vibrations that will fill the venue, flowing through the room as if Adele and Janis Joplin had a baby. This beautifully bizarre trio is the cat’s meow. Don’t be surpised if they incorporate a little something for our feline friends into their songs, as the band is affectionately named for their kitty.
