Best known for her autobiography, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, Dr. Angelou’s fast résumé includes, among other positions, being an actress, educator, dramatist, producer, and historian.
Dr. Angelou served on two presidential committees sand holds various awards including three Grammy Awards and Presidential Medal of Arts. She was also nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for her script of her movie Georgia, Georgia, the first screenplay by an African American woman ever to be filmed.
Currently Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University, Dr. Angelou has received over 30 honorary degrees.
