We live in a transactional world.
From the daily debit swipe for goods and services to the daily exchange of emotions and conversation, we are always trading back and forth between each other.
Although it’s easy to sign your receipt and move on your way, GainesvilleScene wants to dig a little deeper. Behind the Scene, our new series, gives you a glimpse into the world of the amazing locals who make Gainesville the exceptional town it is.
Joe Pierce is a staff member at Mosswood Farm Store. With an easygoing demeanor and a contagious laugh, Joe is a peaceful guy who would choose to spend time in the garden over almost anything else. Oh, and 10 years ago he shared an apartment with a ghost.
Are you more of a spontaneous personality or do you like to plan things?
I hate plans. Structure sucks.
So were you more of a kid who liked breaking rules?
Yeah pretty much. I didn’t go to school from fifth grade until I took my GED in 11th grade. I got straight F’s most of the time. I got thrown in rehab at like, 13, but that was just like behavioral rehab, y’know? It wasn’t anything like bad bad. Yeah, I was not the law abiding citizen that most people would expect of an upstanding citizen.
Any crazy stories from your time living in Gainesville?
I had a 7-year-old ghost that lived in an apartment I lived in about 10 years ago just down the street from here. He played around with stuff and threw things around the apartment for a couple of months before we had a psychic come in and tell us it was a little boy.
If you could be somebody else for the rest of your life, who would you be and why?
Buddha. Because he has no desires no worries no fears.
