I have found my new home away from home here in Gainesville.
It’s called Blaze Pizza.
My obsession with pizza is a long-running thing, and yes, sometimes I can be a little dramatic about it. But this place is not just an ordinary restaurant. It’s different from Satchel’s, Leo’s or even Italian Gator (better known to the common man as Pizza by the Slice).
Blaze Pizza lets you create your own 11-inch artisanal pizza and then fast fires it in an oven for a speedy 180 seconds. Some like to think of it as a Chipotle for pizza. Well, it has all the ingredients to be just as successful as the Mexican chain we all know and love.

Customers can go down the line and choose from various sauces, meats, cheeses and vegetables to create their dream pizza, or look to some of the signature pizzas for help if they’re too indecisive to construct a masterpiece on their own. Then you pay a whopping $7 to $10 and fill up your soda, and before you know it, your name is being called. You walk up to receive this amazing award that is your pizza, and it feels like it’s in slow motion because it’s just all so magical.
I was unaware (and a little offended) that I didn’t know about the free pizza deal that took place for Blaze’s opening day just a few days ago, so I went Sunday while the line wasn’t too long and the wait was completely worth it.
When I received my pie, the manager mentioned that the crust was a little burnt and they would be happy to re-make it for me, which I thought was kind and quickly obliged. I also received a coupon for a free pizza for a future visit due to my inconvenience, which was basically like winning the lottery.

Not only is this place fast, cheap and delicious (all the making of something great) but it’s (relatively) healthy because they slice their pies in 100-calorie quarters. And the customer service was amazing. Every employee was happy, cool and understanding.
So if you haven’t been here yet, you must go. It’s not even far away from our little Gainesville bubble; it’s right on Archer near Wendy’s and I-75, where Willy’s used to be.
I’ll be there again this Saturday, using my coupons, taking pictures of my ‘za for Snapchat and probably Instagram (#basic), dying of happiness and floating away to my pizza-filled heaven.
