STRFKR to Bring St. Paddy’s Day Tunes to High Dive

Every season, there is always one standout show to grace Gainesville stages that makes me completely lose my mind (in the best way possible, of course). And that’s saying a lot based off of my overall enthusiasm for all things live music. This time around, the show that I can hardly contain my excitement for is STRFKR at High Dive on March 17.
It’s all going down on St. Patrick’s Day, so you know things are about to get weird. But if you know anything about STRFKR, things are about to get very weird.
The psychedelic-alternative band hails from Portland and is known for its theatrics and quirky on-stage antics. I expect High Dive to be transformed into nothing shy of a trance-like dance party amplified by the effects of the St. Paddy’s Day spirit.
I will be a first-timer at this STRFKR show, but based on their reputation, this is about to be the show we rave about for months on end. I’m not sure when I first started listening to the band, but I consider myself at least moderately qualified to recommend a few essential songs to know before the show.
So grab your AirPods, plug in your AUX chord or demand Alexa play STRFKR because here comes your prep course for the Gainesville dance party of the season.
“Florida”
I mean come on…did you think we could overlook the obvious choice to add this to our playlist? Sunshine state references aside, it’s a good introductory song to what the group is about.
“While I’m Alive”
This is the song that solidified my love for STRFKR. Off of the 2013 album Miracle Mile, this song was one of my top played tracks of 2018. If that isn’t a selling point, I don’t know what is.
“Never Ever”
“Never Ever” is one of those songs that makes you want to strap on your old rollerblades, head to the park and maybe skin up your knees a little. It has this youthful brightness to it that inspires a return to the energy of much simpler times.
“Tape Machine”
The first track off of Being No One, Going Nowhere, “Tape Machine” reels listeners into the rest of the album. It is the welcome mat that is too charming to refuse. The second that track 2 (“Satellite”) begins, you quickly realize you are now listening to this entire album. You have no choice but to stay and check out the rest of the album’s offerings.
“Girls Just Want to Have Fun”
Any covers fans in the crowd? As if this iconic anthem from Cyndi Lauper wasn’t already golden, I might even like STRFKR’s version more. But, I will let you all be the judge of that.
Tickets for STRFKR at High Dive on Sunday, March 17 are available for purchase online here. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m.
