Your Friday Night Plans: Artwalk Gainesville

It’s fair to say that we could all use a little more art and a little more walking in our lives.
This Friday, Gainesville will satisfy both cravings in one creative swoop.
Artwalk, which combines visual art, live performance, and quirky events is taking over downtown Gainesville at 7 p.m. This free, self-guided tour through local galleries, eateries and various businesses is a spectacular journey through the Gainesville art scene.
Held the last week of every month, Artwalk is a laid-back way to experience the wealth of creativity flowing through the Gainesville community, meet new people and explore new local hangouts.
Here are a few of the must-see spots from this Friday’s festivities:
Patent Arts Gallery
This brand new gallery is a little off the beaten path, on the west side of Main Street, but well worth the adventure. Look for a set of painted footprints downtown to lead you to the doorstep of this eclectic Gainesville gem.
Part law office, part gallery, Patent Arts is a cozy escape into diverse mediums and striking visuals. From colorful sculpture to awe-inducing dog portraits, it’s a feast for the eyes.
The gallery currently features work by Barr, Bencen, Blair, Detmold, Dubin, Ferrel, Frey, Greenbaum, Hinson, Hodges, Kesl, Korb, Lonsky, Low, Malles, Overby, Phillips, Wood, Zuelsdorf, Instrumental Changes and Earth Pets.
Bring your checkbook, because there is a ton of beautiful art for sale.
First Magnitude
Four awesome exhibits, cold craft beer and live music from The Ramblin’ Mutts Blues band…what more could you need?
Joe Cruz
Joe is the co-founder of Spring Hunters, a springs awareness and conservation group. His exhibit “Exploring Florida Springs” features the photography of both well known and less prominent springs all over Florida. A beautiful reminder to protect our precious water!
Geena Hill
Geena is a research assistant at the Florida Museum of Natural History. Her appreciation of the natural world harmonizes with her love of photography. Her work with the museum affords her the opportunity to travel across the U.S., South America, Caribbean, and the Pacific Islands, aiding conservation efforts and genetic research. Whether traveling for work or personal enjoyment, Geena endeavors to capture in photos the striking and unique features of each ecosystem from the smallest insects, to the largest landscapes.
Jenna Horner
The intention of Jenna’s work is to encourage a dialogue about the beauty, complexity and mysterious nature of the natural world. She works as a multimedia artist and incorporates various vintage fabrics, paints, dead flowers and other media to build unique, highly textured surfaces. She thrives off bringing new life to old, unused materials and her hope is to evoke an emotional connection between the paintings and the viewer through different materials and nature inspired imagery.
Painting with a Twist
The nation’s largest paint-and-sip franchise based out of the New Orleans, Louisiana area was recently ranked the No. 1 Paint & Sip Studio as part of the 2015 Entrepreneur magazines annual Franchise 500 edition. Paint mini canvases for free, meet the local artist and owners and see what Gainesville’s Painting with a Twist is all about.

Visionary CrossFit is hosting a second showing of “Goddess Visions,” featuring dazzling photography and art honoring the Divine Feminine.
The Main gallery will have a Goddess Visions Photo Exhibition by Onna Meyer and Frances Aiom, Goddess Paintings by Carrie Martinez and Mixed Media Surrealist Art by Scott Bellew.
