“So, who can tell me what happened in the news today?”
I dreaded hearing that question every week in my international relations class during my freshman year.
Although twenty percent of my grade was participation, I stayed painfully quiet whenever current events were discussed.
Sure, I could read up on what was going on around the world, but with so many stories filling up my newsfeed, I could never figure out what was actually legitimate. Not to mention, my busy schedule made it easy to avoid the news.
That all changed when a sorority sister posted a link to subscribe to a morning newsletter on her Facebook page. I decided that I’d give the whole “reading the news” thing a try.
To my surprise, the morning newsletter, MorningScene, not only made my class discussions a breeze, but it became an enjoyable daily habit.
We all wake up and take a few moments to do the “morning scroll.” We check our Facebook, watch last night’s Snapchat stories and read our emails, desperately hoping our 8 a.m. lecture hall professor cancels class. The only thing missing from is an update on what’s happening around the world.
