How Knack Makes Tutoring Suck Less

When something sucks, technology moves in to make it suck less.

Getting a cheap ride home from Mid used to be a hassle, and Uber fixed that. Accessing good music whenever you want it used to be expensive or time consuming (R.I.P. Limewire), and Spotify fixed that. Meeting hot, non-crazy chicks to hookup with used to be impossible, and Tinder fixed that. (Lol, just kidding, it didn’t.)

We live in an on-demand society where solutions to our everyday problems can usually be found in the form of an app.

Now, with Knack, finding reliable, cost-effective help in your college courses is fixed too

Started by former UF students Dennis Hansen, Samyr Qureshi, Shawn Doyle and David Stoker, Knack connects college students who need help in their courses with those who have aced their courses.

Best described as Uber for tutors, all you have to do is look up your class on the app and search through tutors that are nearby. The tutors are verified by Knack to have aced the course previously, so you know the person helping you did well in the exact class you are studying for.

You can browse the list and request your tutor based on whatever criteria you find valuable. Proximity to your sad, lonely location in the Marston basement, the quality of their past reviews or even how attractive they are. (Okay, maybe it’s a mix of Uber and Tinder for tutoring).

Once you’ve decided on your tutor, simply input when, where, and how long you need help for and the tutor will be notified. When your session is over your credit card will be charged. No awkward financial transactions and no wasted time.

My first Knack tutoring session was a breeze. The tutor was cool, and we bonded over how shitty Financial Accounting online homeworks are. In 20 minutes, I got everything I needed figured out, all for less than the cost of a Chipotle burrito bowl (with guac).
