Startup Weekend: Test Your Idea in Tampa

From the recent developments of Innovation Square to hackathons, coworking spaces, networking events, and a growing pool of talent, Gainesville has become a pressure-cooker for innovation and creativity that has carved itself a unique and vibrant startup scene.
With Startup Weekend Gainesville being pushed back to February, Startup Weekend Tampa is here to fuel and test Gainesville’s barrel of ideas November 11th-13th.
If you’ve ever wanted to start your own business but couldn’t seem to find the time, team, or resources to start it, Startup Weekend is designed to help you jumpstart your idea.
It’s an immersive 54 hour, fast-paced event where you pitch ideas, form teams, receive mentorship, and pitch for prizes to accelerate your business.
You’ll walk away after the weekend knowing if your idea is truly validated and maybe even with a company ready to operate.
Two examples of such success are LiftSync (liftsync.co) and SuperAuth (superauth.com), both were nothing more than ideas on the opening night last November. Now with investment, a team and operations in place, they are both full-fledged businesses seeing rapid growth.
Startup Weekend Tampa has an all-star cast of judges to pitch to featuring Alex Sink (Ex CFO of Florida), Tony DiBennedetto (CEO of Tribridge), Greg Ross-Munro (CEO of SourceToad) and Reuben Pressman (CEO of Check I’m Here).
Organizers Trey Steinhoff and Daniel McDonald have been working on making this the biggest and best Startup Weekend yet. With new sponsors, judges, and mentors, Startup Weekend Tampa aims to provide the best resources available for attendees.
One of the mentors includes Ronny Herrera from Reef House Media who attended University of Florida and has done videography in Gainesville the last two years.
“I have mentored and organized two startup weekends and I have seen more value in learning about business during these 54 hours than a whole semester of business school” said McDonald.
“In the past, Gainesville residents have participated in Startup Weekend Tampa and have also placed in the top three,” said McDonald. “This time we welcome our Gainesville entrepreneurs to come back down and participate in another amazing experience!”
