Florida Fun Bikes: The Best Bar Crawl in Gainesville

Amber Shelton has done all of us a favor and put drinking on wheels.
As one of the creators of Florida Fun Bikes (FFB), Amber brought some pedal-powered magic to Gainesville. The Florida Fun Bikes vehicle seats 16 passengers and takes you on a bar crawl through your choice of downtown or midtown
If you don’t have 16 friends (does anyone have 16 friends?), don’t fret. Grab eight friends —or two friends and six acquaintances — and book a group tour.
Each tour is two hours and takes you to two to three spots. At these spots, you’ll indulge in exclusive food and drinks specials.
“It’s a very laidback, fun activity and you get some light exercise,” Shelton said. “Then you don’t feel as bad for drinking or eating all the calories.”
So pedaling cancels out the pitchers of beer? That’s for you to decide.
For $30 per person, grab a friend and sign up for the Mix N’ Mingle tour. Here, you’ll be grouped with some randos who just might become your best friends after the tour. (Guaranteed it will be better than a Tinder date!)
If you’re that one friend who refuses to step foot into the gym, have no fear. There are 6 non-peddlers on the bike, so you can do nothing, as usual.
Florida Fun Bikes runs seven days a week from 11 a.m. to midnight, making it the perfect activity for birthdays, company hangouts, casual dates and everything in between.
The tour guide, who will be sober the whole time in case you were wondering, will tell you some of the history of Gainesville while you pedal along. (Unless of course you would like the guide to crank on some music, like the infamous Dirty Dozen playlist.)
Although you currently can’t drink on the bike, Sullivan said she is working with the city to see if they will allow alcohol on the bikes, in which case it would be BYOB.
Shelton thinks taking a bike tour will give locals new outlook on the bars.
“Think about if you walk to work everyday, it would be much different if you started to drive to work,” Shelton said. “So it’s the same place, but just a different experience.”
