The Must-Use App for Acing Finals

It’s 1:47 a.m. and I’m in the Pita Pit parking lot waiting for my Uber to arrive. I’m drunk, I’m tired and that unavoidable December guilt is starting to creep into my stomach.
Guilt that finals are hurtling towards me like a meteor and I’m still standing at mid wondering where all my money went tonight. Guilt that I haven’t studied or worked nearly hard enough all semester. Guilt that they’re paying for classes I sometimes go to. Guilt that I spilled that pitcher of Rolling Rock on the guy at Rowdy two hours ago. Okay, not that much guilt on the last one because he was kind of being an ass.
As Derek pulls up in his jazzy Honda Accord, ready to scoop me back to safety and the comfort of my bed, all I can think is: I wish there was an Uber for finals.
With the launch of Knack this week, my finals-week wish came true.
Knack is an app for on demand tutoring started by former UF students Dennis Hansen, Samyr Qureshi, Shawn Doyle and David Stoker. The app connects college students who need help in their courses with those who have aced their courses.
Simply look up your class on the app and search through tutors that are nearby, all of which got a B+ or higher in the class you’re searching for. You can even pick yourself a hot tutor based on their picture and hope to God that he’ll go with you on that semi-formal next week. Or a mutual friend that you know is wicked smart. Or someone that you’ll never see again so nobody knows how bad you are at basic math.
Select when, where and how long you’ll need help. Yes, you can order a tutor right to your table at Lib West. (Under no circumstances should you give up that coveted empty table on the third floor.)
Once you meet up, the session is timed and payment is automatic, just like Uber. Knack’s prices are fixed, but the rate is prorated exactly to the minute. The rate for a session is $20 per hour with a $5 minimum, which means quick, affordable help anytime you need it.
Unlike other study services, Knack sets out to serve the smaller, higher-level classes that aren’t as easy to ace, not just those large lecture classes you take your freshman year.
If you’re like me and have figured out down to the decimal point what you need on your finals to pass your classes (we all do it, brother), getting one-on-one tutoring is a must. Individual help allows you to ask specific questions and make sure you know what the hell you’re doing before the exam. Plus, they are students that have recently taken the class, not middle aged men that took the class back in ‘95.
In the oversaturated market of study aids, Knack stands out. An app can’t make finals suck any less, but it can definitely give you the boost you need to make it through.
Chances are, I’ll be back in the Pita Pit parking lot shortly after finals are done. At least this time I’ll be celebrating my killer grades and catching an Uber home with a hot Knack tutor. Just kidding. But maybe.
Use the code CurveBuster15 and your first tutoring session is free ($10 credit for a 30-minute session).
