It’s time to put your summer fitness plans on hold because tonight, the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce will kick off its annual Restaurant Week.
Taking place at the Gainesville Regional Airport from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the event welcomes all residents to experience a taste of local food and drinks.
Over 20 vendors will be at the event, offering samples ranging from seafood to barbecue and Italian eats.
Alyssa Brown, host of the annual event and the director of communications for the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce, calls restaurant week “a 10-day celebration of food culture.”
“We’re excited about all our participants,” Brown said. “We have something for everyone.”
Restaurants like Ballyhoo Grill, First Magnitude Brewery, Dragonfly and Blue Highway Pizza are among the participating vendors.

For people looking for a great date night idea, Restaurant Week is the perfect choice. Although prices run the gamut, Brown said locations will offer special deals and even some dishes created exclusively for the event.
Each day of the week offers a new deal to residents.
On Tuesday you can grab a pizza and calzone for 25 percent off regular price. “Wow Wings Wednesday” boasts 49 cent wings, and the last weekend of Restaurant Week offers $5 off any bottle of wine, just to name some of the perks.
If that’s not intriguing enough, the 10-day celebration will also be filled with live music and tournaments with prizes, giving you the perfect opportunity to tune up your cornhole skills before tailgate season.
Brown also reminds people that although restaurant week is enjoyable for members of the community and students, it also helps businesses in the Gainesville area.
Without students around in the summertime visiting their favorite local hot spots, businesses take hits to their bottom line.
This event gives students the chance to break free from the comfort zone that is Relish and Chipotle and experience all that our unique local culture has to offer.
So as your annoying friend who is studying abroad in Paris would say, “Bon appetit.”
