Glory Days Presents is bringing hip-hop heavyweights Atmosphere to unleash their seamlessly powerful lyrics and dynamic beats at High Dive this Thursday evening.

Gainesville is smack in the center of Atmosphere’s Welcome To FL Tour and is an event that cannot be missed.

The Minneapolis-based duo is comprised of MC Sean “Slug” Daley and producer Anthony “Ant” Davis. As a teenager entranced by hip-hip, graffiti and breakdancing, Slug formed the Rhymesayers collective with high school friends Siddiq Ali (Stress) and Derek Turner (Spawn). After a few early gigs, Slug met Ant, and in 1998, Atmosphere’s debut album, “Overcast!,” was released.

Rhymesayers Entertainment has since expanded into a massive independent hip-hop label that boasts one of the strongest rosters in the game, and Atmosphere has produced top-20 charting albums and numerous hits. The duo continues to push the boundaries of indie rap with Slug at the forefront with penetrating lyrics with Ant’s talent for producing vibrant sounds in the background.

Atmosphere has broken through as the leader in the slightly underground genre that is independent Hip Hop. Slug’s lyrics explore everything from his own childhood, life and love to death and mortality.

The group’s eighth studio album, Southsiders, takes the listener through an introspective journey contemplating the conflicts of mortality as well as an overall look at songwriter Slug’s life. The album has been noted as a return to the artists’ roots after their 17-year-long trek through the music industry. In recent interviews, the duo has explained that the album is named after their hometown, to rep the south side of Minneapolis. Songs such on the 15-track masterpiece such as ‘Flicker’ and ‘Kanye West’ symbolize the duo’s talent to tackle a variety of important themes, from the personal grieving process to unprecedented passion.

In a recent interview, Slug explained that he named a song after ‘Ye to represent the concept of “loving something so much and being so passionate, that it makes the people who don’t understand you feel like you’re trippin.” Southsiders landed at #8 in its first week on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, and fans can expect to hear the best of it live on Thursday.

Rhymesayers’ own Prof and deM atlaS, as well as Minneapolis-based DJ Fundo will be sharing High Dive’s stage with Atmosphere Thursday. Prof is infamous for his interactive stage antics, which are all soaked in by his dedicated fanbase, dubbed “Gampos.” Prof’s performance is sure to be an interesting one, especially with the addition of well known ‘partner-in-crime’ DJ Fundo. deM atlas, otherwise known as Joshua Evans, will bring a broader landscape to the stage, with sounds ranging from Folk to Alt-Rock to Hip Hop.

If there was just one out of the copious amount of musical events brought to Gainesville, this is the one worth crawling out of your comfortable bed or study room at Library West to show up for. High Dive’s crowd on Thursday can expect a musical journey of Minneapolis raw talent at it’s finest.

Doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are available here.
