Spend Spring Break at Aura Music & Arts Festival

Aura is a noun meaning “the distinctive atmosphere or quality that seems to surround and be generated by a person, thing or place,” according to the good folks at Google.

From March 6 to March 8, that distinctive atmosphere will be generated by the attendees of the 6th annual Aura Music & Arts Festival, surrounding the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida.

If you haven’t been to any music festivals and are trying to get your feet wet, Aura is the perfect place to start.

With The Disco Biscuits, Moe and perennial festival favorites Papadosio (the group has played the festival every year since its inception) headlining, in addition to a funky and diverse lineup including Break Science, The Main Squeeze, The Heavy Pets and more, fans are guaranteed good vibes for the duration of the weekend.

Perhaps what is most special about the festival is the venue that holds it. The Spirit of Suwannee Music Park, which hosts festivals throughout the year such as Wannee, Blackwater and Bear Creek, is dedicated to providing music fans with diverse, brilliant and beautiful music experiences.

Trevor Hartog, UF student and attendee of last year’s Aura Festival, said the park is the most unique place he could imagine to experience a concert.

“Once you go to a festival at Suwannee, nothing else really compares,” Hartog said.

While the aura of the festival is created by the music and the people in attendance, the spiritual exploration available goes far beyond beats, breaks and boogy. The festival also provides attendees with yoga and healing arts activities, as well as a wide range of arts and crafts to check out.

“Jivamukti Spiritual Warrior,” a class available to attendees, is described by saying “In this class you will be inspired and challenged by a creatively designed vinyasa sequence, breath awareness, alignment exploration, hands-on assists, meditation, chanting, yoga philosophy and deep relaxation. Eclectic music plays an integral role.” Sounds like a pretty solid way to get in touch with yourself and let go of that silly ego that’s been telling you to worry when she doesn’t text you back. So when your legs are tired and your mind gets cluttered, you’ll be happy to know the festival’s got your back when it comes to your soul’s health.

“But what am I going to eat?” Well, the fact of the matter is your camping, so it’s always smart to bring some of your own food. But if you happen to not bring enough, or if you’re just interested in grabbing some pretty sweet eats, the festival has a variety of food vendors, like Free Lovin’ Foodery, Fair Shot Coffee and Toasted Cheese to satisfy those hunger pangs.

If you’re interested in going, tickets are still on sale, and there’s definitely time to ditch your cliché Spring Break plan to head to Key West or Panama City for something way cooler. So make your way to Suwannee for what’s bound to be the funkiest, wildest, greatest weekend to get your groove on this March.
