It’s finals week, which means you’ll spend more time trying to study than actually studying.
If you’re anything like me, “trying to study” means spending hours in the library and procrastinating by taking Buzzfeed quizzes with titles like “What part of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space video are you?” and trolling your friends’ Facebook posts from 2009.
In an attempt to stay awake during a cram session, I found myself growing bored of my Instagram feed (#basic). I decided to start in on a new social media site. So I traveled over to Twitter, which has some surprisingly superb accounts to fill your brain with useless, hilarious and entertaining information.

I’ve broken down some of the greatest ones to follow, so that you can pick your poison for how you’re going to waste your day and avoid studying for your exams.
For Serious Tweets
If you’re trying to actually gain knowledge and be aware of what’s going on it our world, kudos to you for still managing to be somewhat productive when procrastinating. But, in all seriousness (see what I did there?), accounts for CNN, The New York Times and the Associated Press are some solid choices if you’re looking to gain general knowledge on national and global news.
For fast news updates, accounts like Breaking News and Reuters Live are my favorites. Of course for more local news, tweets from University of Florida and WUFT stay up-to-date with campus happenings (like whether there’s a rapist or gunman on campus) because unfortunately, in times like these, those worries are completely valid.

Much like with news, sports accounts are abundant and can appeal to any and all fans. My personal favorite is Fake Sports Center, because it takes sports news and makes it better by inserting humor. For Gator and/or other college sports, GatorZone and College Gameday are classics, and for all other clever sports knowledge, you can’t go wrong with Bleacher Report or Deadspin.
It also would not be a bad idea to look into following some accounts based off of your major, future desired workplaces or anything related to your chosen job field. You’ll be able to see what they’re up to and keep up with their current trends to nail that future job interview. Because, let’s be honest, no one cares about your grades anyway, or at least that’s what you tell yourself as you scroll through yet another Twitter account.
Light-hearted Tweets
For those of us who cannot operate the necessary brain functions to read serious tweets, humorous ones are our lifeblood, and sometimes, the dumber the better. Parody accounts on Twitter, for example, are essentially where I get all of my comedic genius and mediocre jokes at 3 o’clock in the morning.
For instance, if you’re a Drake fan, or not necessarily a Drake fan but like jokes about him, Stuff Drake Does is one of the many fake Drake accounts that gives dramatic scenarios with Drake being way too sensitive and deep.
For goofy and/or adorable pictures, Marnie the Dog and Doge are sure to keep you entertained. For guys, Men’s Humor is always a safe bet, and for girls, there are a plethora of fake accounts created by tweens to help you come up with a new Instagram bio.

Just a few of my favorites include: Sincerely Tumblr, Tweet like a Girl, ‘No’ and College Student.
And, if parodies aren’t your thing, you could always try creeping. Come on, everyone knows that Twitter was created to stalk our favorite celebrities, constantly tweet at them and direct message them until they block or respond to us. You’re just using the site as it was intended to be used.So if nothing else, check out some famous folk to see if they really are just like us.
Model Chrissy Teigen is my personal favorite because she constantly jokes about food and calls out people who tweet rude things at her. Some other entertaining accounts are classics like Amanda Bynes’ and Kim Kardashian’s, as well as Lena Dunham’s and Jimmy Fallon’s.
Parting Words
As a fellow finals week struggler, I feel obligated to share with you my ways of coping. You will get through this, guys. Trust me. And, I wouldn’t be able to leave you without a shameless plug for our fine organization. Follow GainesvilleScene, and you can read about plenty of cool things concerning Gainesville and college kids in general. Because, let’s be honest, you weren’t really going to study anyway.
