Although we love to view the world in absolutes, things are seldom black and white. Heroes have skeletons in their closets and assholes secretly donate money to the ASPCA commercials with Sarah Mclachlan. Okay, maybe not.
But the point is that the world is a complex place, full of moral ambiguity, double standards and mixed feelings.
So we have taken the task upon ourselves to bring back the epic binary of “good” versus “bad,” “right” versus “wrong,” and “virtuous versus “evil.”
We humbly present to you: Asshole and Hero of the week.
Asshole(s): U.S. Senate Republicans

On Monday Senate Republicans rejected the Paycheck Fairness Act for the fourth time, a bill aimed at closing the wage gap between men and women.
The bill would protect employees from being punished for sharing financial information with one another, would have specific consequences for pay discrimination and would require employers to provide substantial evidence that wage gaps are based on non-gender factors. The bill needed 60 votes; it received 52.
Women make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, according to the U.S. Census. Political affiliations aside, you can’t beat the truth of numbers.
Hero: Burlington, Vermont

Via: gazettenet.com
As of this month, the city of Burlington, Vermont is 100 percent efficient with all of its energy coming from wind, water and biomass. The crucial step was the Burlington Electric Department’s purchase of a 7.4 megawatt hydroelectric project on Winooski River, the Winooski 1.
Vermont’s statewide goal is to have 90 percent of its energy from renewable resources by 2050, including electricity, heating and transportation.
Women are getting pummelled in elevators, journalists are being decapitated and cops are exercising their inner fascists. With all this rampant fuckery it’s refreshing to know that Vermont has good ol’ Mother Earth in mind.
