Calling reggae/rock aficionados from all over: THE TIME IS NIGH! Blackwater Music Festival is this week.
You can’t think about Slightly Stoopid’s double set without shitting sunflowers, you’ve already got a bowl packed for two in the spirit of The Expendables, and the prospect of hearing Stephen Marley in person gives you heart palpitations.
Another badass band you need to check out as you gallivant through the Spirit of the Suwannee is Oceanstone. This Indian Rocks Beach band is united by a thorough appreciation for the ocean, and they pride themselves on their magical ability to create an epic party atmosphere.
I was lucky enough to chat with the gentlemen of Oceanstone in anticipation of this week’s looming endeavors.
How would you describe Oceanstone? How about Gulf Coast Reggae/Rock as a genre?
(Ocean) represents the island vibe, and the reggae Sound we bring, along with the (Stone) the rock & roll influence. Gulf Coast Reggae ranges in area from Houston, New Orleans, Mobile, Pensacola, Tampa, Fort Myers & Key West. Jimmy Buffet paved the way in this genre in the 1970s.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of performing?
Being able to do what we love most, and knowing we have support from our fans, family, and friends.
Positivity is obviously a prevalent theme in your music. What do you think is the first, fundamental step in leading a positive existence?
We think the first step in living a positive existence is to “Stay positive, love life.” This is the motto we live by. We use our music to bring people together in the moment in happiness. Music is very emotional, we prefer to focus on the the positive aspects of life & music, since there is already enough negative around.

How do you guys prep for a show?
We prep for a show by rehearsing our set, writing a song list, having our gear ready, stretching out our muscles, clearing our head & being their for each other as bandmates if anyone needs help.
Oceanstone will be performing at the Beach on Saturday from noon to 1 p.m.
Check them out on facebook, and check out their music on reverbnation.
