Get ready, kiddies. Tomorrow is Mother’s Day, so whether you and your mom are total BFFs or you just see each other on holidays, pick up the phone and give her a shout because you only get one (unless, you have two, in which case, kudos, and make two phone calls).
When you’re a kid, you don’t want to leave your mother’s side even for a second. When someone new talks to you, you shyly take your place behind her legs until the scary people go away. When you’re a teenager, you don’t want anything to do with your mom because she’s uncool and she “ruins your rep.”
It’s a whole different game in your 20s.
When you’re in college, you learn to miss the little things about mommy dearest because now, you have to learn to do things on your own that would have been done for you if you still lived at home. Like laundry. It’s a good thing you had a mom who showed you the ropes before you left home, otherwise, you’d probably be wearing blotchy pink underwear for the rest of your college days.

Moms are the best people in the world, and when you get older, you slowly start to realize that they know their shit. Remember the old saying, “If they jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?” she used to say every time you wanted to do something your friends were doing? You thought it was a stupid adage, but after visiting that no-name frat’s party freshman year, all you heard when someone asked you to drink beer out of a communal funnel was your mom’s voice telling you to stay off that fucking bridge. And, while the rest of the party ended up with mono, you secretly thanked the voice of your mother for once again being right.
More than just being annoyingly right about everything all the time, moms will remember everything, even if the rest of the world forgets. They don’t need a Facebook reminder to know when it’s your birthday because for them that special day is the anniversary of a living creature propelling itself into the world after ripping and tearing a path for hours upon hours. That memory doesn’t just fade with time.

Your mom will also always be there for you. Whether you failed a test, got too drunk at a party or broke up with a significant other, your mom will always be around to listen to you vent and help you through it. She’ll lend you her undivided attention, even if you call her when she’s busy, because you’re her child, and she loves you.
The bond you have with your mom is unlike any other bond in the world. No matter how much you try to push her away, she will always be your mom.
Give her a call, send her a card; hell, get crazy and do both! Your mom is the greatest, so it’s about time you show her you know that.
