We were to catch up with the Ohio jamtronica band, Papadosio, before their Gainesville set.The group has been on tour since their epic Rootwire festival. The group melds electronic sounds with jam band style hooks and creates a psychedelic sound all their own. They play tonight at High Dive at 10 PM. We got the opportunity to ask them a few questions about music and life.
1. Tell me about Rootwire this year. Did anything set it up apart from other years?
This year was the biggest to date! Every year we keep collaborating with so many new and old friends to continue making it better every year. We went bigger on production and decoration throughout the grounds. We had so many new artists and installations. The lineup was incredible being the most eclectic and diverse of all the years.
2. Where do you see live electronic music going in the next 5-10 years?
I see more and more people reverting back to playing instruments, hence why you see all these producers doing the live band thing. Its more exciting to watch someone playing real instruments than just pressing play.
3. Can we expect any new recordings/albums in the coming months?
No time for studio recordings for a while. we have no idea when we are going to get back in the studio with all these shows we have planned out. But for live shows we will be releasing as many good shows as possible throughout the fall.
4. What do you think of the Florida music scene? I’ve heard a lot of talk about your set at Aura. Do the crowds here compare to those in other states?
We love florida!!! The music scene has been growing so much every year. Not a lot of bands actually make it down to florida and maybe thats why we do so well because we make it a priority to come back several times a year. We started playing florida 5 years ago and it has become one of our favorite places in the country. Aura has become a staple for us every winter as an escape from the cold to amazing suwannee paradise.
5. What was the high and low point of 2012 for you guys?
I would say in 2012 a really high point was Earth Night in Columbus. Pulling of an event similar to Rootwire but in the city was a big achievement. I went so well that we are doing it again this year but instead of 1 night at the LC we are doing 2 massive shows.
Low points are hard to think of because every year keeps getting better. I would say losing out trailer in Cleveland when the entire wheel well got super screwed up. There always some sort of depressing travel problems.
6. If you had a dream show, who would open for you guys and who would close?
so a band before and after us?? well it would be pretty sweet if Radiohead opened, we played and then Tool closed!!! haha would be the craziest show ever. sandwiched by my favorite bands. That would never happen.
7. Smooth or crunchy peanut butter?
smooth!!
8. What is the best way for people to listen to your music?
I would say live for sure. We like to switch it up every night and create a new experience. Albums are great too if you don’t like shows.
9. What’s the band’s favorite way to spend a Saturday afternoon?
Chillin with our ladies doing something outside. Checking out some waterfalls or hiking trails here in Asheville then going out for some delicious food downtown.
