On Saturday of Bonnaroo, I wandered away from the “What Stage” where Nas was cursing about problems with his ex-wife and spent a little time at “That Tent” listening to Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors and finally ended up at “That Other Tent” where Matt and Kim where getting ready to perform.
I stayed just long enough to hear Matt and Kim (but mostly Kim) go on a 10 minute rant on stage about how everyone should get laid after the their show and how girls should definitely take advantage of baby wipes after 4 days of camping. Except, of course, all of that was said in language that not even GainesvilleScene will publish. They put on a rowdy and epically energetic show, to say the least.
You get the chance to hear the obscenities and ridiculously upbeat jams of Matt and Kim on your very own Flavet Field on Friday, July 12th at 6:30 p.m, sans 4 days without a shower.
SGP’s Swampfest is back with their very own mini music festival including headliner Matt and Kim, Cults (who unfortunately played too early at Bonnaroo for me to drag my corpse out of our boiling hot tent to see) and Ahmir (I have no idea who this is, but if they rank #1 in popularity for an R&B group on YouTube, then I’m sold).
Last year around 5,000 Gainesville-ites…er…Gainesvillians…er…people from Gainesville came out to Swampfest and even more are expected to groove on Flavet this year.
Feel free to blow all your money in midtown this week, because the show is completely free and open to the public. Yes, ACRs like music too.
There will be no bags or coolers allowed, so smuggle like it’s time to go through security on a spring break cruise. Leave your pets at home, as well.
Your summer truly isn’t complete without experiencing some killer live music, so if you’re at home with mom and dad, make the trek to the Ville and if you’re here for summer B, you shouldn’t need convincing…it’ll be less sweaty and there will be more oxygen to breathe than any party you’ve been to all summer.
Where is the after party you ask? Click hurrrr for details.
If you don’t trust my advice, take SGP Chairman Daniel Levin’s word for it**.
“In all my years of music lovin’, I’ve been to Hangout, Buku, Governors Ball and Summerfest and let me tell you, Swampfest is going to put all those festivals to shame. Okay, not really, but it’s going to be a damn good time. ”
**And if it sucks, I’ll post his home address after the event.
