‘Hot Cop’ to Attend Grammy and Oscar Awards as Red Carpet Host

Sometimes, Gainesville Police officer and “hot cop” Daniel Rengering can’t believe any of this has actually happened.
After a selfie featuring Rengering and two other GPD officers was posted to Facebook last September, the bunch became a viral sensation known for their attractiveness.
What resulted was over 142,000 comments (from mostly women) on the photo, and for Rengering, a new career in modeling and entertainment.
It was announced earlier this month hat he will be attending the 61st Grammy Awards in Los Angeles as a red carpet correspondent.
His job includes talking to and interviewing celebrities as they arrive to the ceremony. In addition, Rengering gets to watch the show live and visit the exclusive gifting suites.
The opportunity came about through Rengering’s manager Zachary Jaydon, who’s a voter for the Recording Academy. Rengering said Jaydon made a few phone calls and everything fell into place.
“I have a really great team working behind me,” Rengering said, “and a lot of people that have graciously opened doors for me since this all started.”
Every year, the Grammys bring the biggest names in music together. In 2018, there were appearances by John Legend, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga and Elton John.
For as long as he can remember, Rengering said music has always played a big role in his life. Whether it’s country, hip-hop, pop or rock, he loves it all.
Most recently, he’s been listening to covers by William Singe, Travis Garland and Conor Maynard, as well as Jake Miller’s newest album “Silver Lining.”
And while some fans become star struck in the presence of their favorite celebrities, Rengering wants to get into the “meat and potatoes” of the artists. One question he promises to avoid: What are you wearing tonight?
“There are so many subtle nuances about each of [the artists] that really create their overall sound and image,” he said, “and I think sometimes people miss the good parts by focusing too much on the obvious.”
When his fellow officers at GPD heard the news, Rengering said most of them were supportive but some couldn’t help to bust his chops.
“I think it’s mostly in jest,” he said.
For Rengering, the next year is filled with new, exciting opportunities. One week before the Grammys, he’ll be on the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards red carpet. And the week after?
“I’m not sure if it has been announced yet or not, but I’ll be doing the Oscars red carpet, too,” Rengering said.
Another appearance Rengering will make in the next year includes the 91st annual Rudolph Valentino Memorial, where he’ll be a guest speaker discussing film preservation and how to protect the legacy of Hollywood’s original stars.
It’s even rumored that he’ll be on the next season of “Survivor,” according to TMZ. Rengering said he couldn’t comment about casting speculations.
One day, he hopes that his work will lead him to the American Music Awards or the Academy of Country Music Awards. But before he dies, he’ll make sure he gets to the Super Bowl.
“I will continue to bring 100 percent to whatever job I’m working on,” Rengering promised, “whether it’s on the SWAT team, in a police car or on a red carpet.”
