The Tour Starts Here: Michal Menert and The Pretty Fantastics
The first artist on the Pretty Music Label, Michal Menert, will join with The Pretty Fantastics to deliver a 5-show Florida tour that begins in Gainesville at The Jam on February 2nd.
Pretty Music? Pretty Fantastics? Yup, you thought right. This newly-created ensemble was created after Menert began his career as an integral part of THE Pretty Lights with Derek Vincent Smith.
This will be the band’s first tour as the 6-piece band. The group performed as part of a big-band tour in 2014, however the smaller ensemble hasn’t toured since the 2015 fall debut of their studio album, “1.”
The lyrically driven, electronic/indie LP strays from Michal’s earlier works, incorporating more live vocal and instrumental elements. Nonetheless, the glitch hop/bass music veteran’s influence is maintained through delicate compositions of subtle funk and soul on the latter half of the LP. Ethereal themes throughout the work keep you thinking, while the uplifting melodies encourage running into deeper contemplation with full positive stride.
The live elements of the album hint at Michal Menert’s early roots in music, with influences from classic/psychedelic rock, rather than the more funk/hip-hop influenced albums that make up the majority of his work. Menert started his career as an integral part of Pretty Lights Music, by producing, “Taking Up Your Precious Time,” in 2006 with Derek Vincent Smith (Pretty Lights.) Soon after was when Menert spearheaded his record label, Super Best Records, which he used to release two monumental albums and two EP’s leading up to the formation of Michal Menert & the Pretty Fantastics last year.
Through hell and high water, Menert continues his hard work to provide us with his uplifting, soul-grooving beats that combine, “yesterday’s elements with tomorrow’s ideas.”
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite here.
