During the immersive 54-hour fast-paced event, participants pitch ideas, form teams, receive mentorship and even walk away with the the beginnings of a real company.
Don’t have an original idea? No problem. Listen to pitches and join a team looking for your technical or non-technical skill set during the Friday kickoff event.
The weekend-long event leaves you with new connections, a taste of real entrepreneurship, idea validation and even a chance to win office space, consulting services and legal resources to help get your new company off the ground.
“There is a massive gulf between ‘idea’ and ‘more than just an idea’. Sometimes taking those first few steps can be the hardest part. It’s amazing how much you can get done in a weekend when you really dive into it,” says Feathr founder and Startup Weekend organizer, Aidan Augustin, who traveled to Tallahassee to pitch his initial idea of Feathr at Startup Weekend back in 2011.
The organizers have been working on making this year the most successful Startup Weekend yet. With top- notch sponsors, judges and mentors, Startup Weekend Gainesville aims to provide the a wealth of resources for participants.
One of the mentors includes Marc Lefton, CEO of MGC Solutions, a digital firm headquartered in Gainesville that grows brands with creative marketing solutions.
“When I moved to Gainesville last year, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a vibrant entrepreneurial scene and look forward to seeing it in action this weekend,” says Lefton.
The kickoff starts on Friday, February 10th at the Innovation Hub and closes out with an after party at High Dive on Sunday’s demo day.
